After a $200 million renovation, Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino reopened on the South Shore in Stateline, Nevada, in July 2026, promising a “bold new era” of design-forward luxury. I spent two nights there this summer to see how much of that held up.
Caesars Republic is one of the area’s more midpriced hotels. It’s far cheaper than the nearby Edgewood Tahoe Resort (one of the most luxurious hotels in Lake Tahoe), but more expensive than most of the other nearby casino hotels. Room rates start at under $100 in the low season, but can top $400 in the peak season.
While it’s certainly one of the more design-forward casino properties in the area, the whole experience felt like a gamble over whether something was going to be fabulous or kind of rough. My stay included two of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life, plus one that I wouldn’t repeat.
The public spaces, restaurants, gym, pool and parts of my room were clearly designed by someone who understands what a modern traveler wants. But some missed details, like dilapidated TV consoles and peeling wallpaper, felt even more out of place against the other more elegant updates. That said, given what you’re paying, it’s still a great place to stay, and one of the better-value properties you’ll find in Tahoe.

Caesars Republic at a glance
Best for: Skiers and outdoor enthusiasts who value proximity to Heavenly Ski Resort, foodies and people who want a casino experience.
Skip it: People who want every square foot of their stay to feel finished and “luxury.”
Standout features: Free evening musical entertainment, Wolf by Vanderpump, the pool’s three separate hot tubs, plus a gym that was clearly designed by somebody who actually works out.
Booking with (and earning cash) through Caesars Rewards
When you join the program, you earn Reward Credits for most purchases on property (including your room rate, spending in the casino plus other on-property purchases such as dining and the spa). Those credits can be used toward things like casino play, dining and future stays. You also earn Tier Credits toward status levels, which unlock perks like better room categories, dining discounts and — at the higher tiers — lounge access and comped stays.
Maximizing the Wyndham partnership
It’s great for skiing in the winter, but it’s also delightful in the summer, as you can take the gondola up to the top, where there’s an alpine slide, hiking trails, rock climbing and even gold panning.
Its Nevada address also makes gambling legal on the property — and there’s no shortage of casino space.
Many rooms also have lake views, and it’s just a few blocks to walk down to the water.
The renovation: Great in some aspects, but incomplete
Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe is connected to its sister property, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, through an underground walkway. Walking between the two is like time traveling between two different decades, where Harrah’s has that smoky, dim, early-2000s Vegas-like haze, while Caesars Republic is bright, clean-lined and all-around new.
Where the Caesars Republic redesign lands, it lands well, especially when it comes to the dining (more on that later). The public spaces are also excellent, including the High Dive Pool and Lounge, featuring a heated pool as well as multiple hot tubs, plus a refreshed casino experience, a very decked-out gym, new bars and lounges and expanded meeting and event space.
But other parts, like the rooms, feel more dated.
The bathroom in my room had been fully redone with new fixtures throughout. The bedding also felt modern, with cute touches like custom pillows decorated with colorful wolf motifs.
But much of the hotel seemed like it had not been renovated for at least a couple decades. The wallpaper was visibly peeling in places.
Some paneling on the TV console had been stripped off entirely. And the door covering the mini-fridge wouldn’t stay shut unless you wedged it, as it had come off its track.
The view itself was excellent, but these issues made the room feel tired.
The resort’s premier bar and indoor stage venue, Tessie’s Cocktails & Chords, was excellent. Tessie, the venue’s namesake, is essentially Tahoe’s version of the Loch Ness Monster, said to inhabit Lake Tahoe. The bar’s design and theme draw on the region’s Washoe history, which comes through in details such as a massive, multi-headed serpent chandelier in the center of the room. Live musicians perform nightly in the venue, which does not charge a cover.
Wolf by Vanderpump — yes, as in Lisa Vanderpump of Bravo reality TV fame — is a restaurant and bar that’s well worth a visit. It goes maximalist with a dark-wood, wolf-motif theme that could easily tip into kitsch yet doesn’t.
The bread service alone was great, with two distinct butters, baked with a cheesy top layer, all arriving fluffy and warm. The clever cocktails and desserts were good too.
Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen, the property’s other big-name restaurant, delivered exactly what you’d expect from the name. Ordering the beef Wellington is the obvious move, but the lobster risotto was the unexpected star — as was the very thoughtful waiter service. The famous beef Wellington is $72, while vegetarian entrees like cacio e pepe or tofu fried rice run less than $30.
Then there’s Sage Room, which had great food but slow service. We sat down to what might be the best sunset I’ve ever watched from a dinner table, and then waited 30 minutes just to get someone’s attention to order.
The food was excellent. The restaurant is known for steak, but the white fish I ordered was flavorful and delicate. But the slow service put a damper on the evening.
It took another 20 minutes between me putting my card down for the check and the waiter actually coming to collect it.
Despite the delay, I was able to catch the property’s Dueling Pianos show, and I’m so glad I did. A dueling pianos show is where two pianists take song requests from the audience, tell jokes and interact with the crowd. The comedy was just as good as the music, and the performers brought out a mix of today’s top pop songs and classic singalongs. The Dueling Pianos perform on weekends on the same level as the casino floor. There’s no cover, and not even pressure to buy a drink, although an employee wandered around taking orders.
Both the gym and pool were clearly designed by someone who actually uses these amenities. There are three separate hot tubs, so you’re not stuck sharing one hot tub with everyone else.
The gym might be my favorite surprise of the whole stay. It’s got two full squat racks (you’re usually lucky if your hotel has just one) plus bands, kettlebells and sandbags. It’s all the kind of equipment list that tells you whoever put this together actually works out. Even the plates on the squat rack have custom detailing with the Caesars Republic wolf logo.
Caesars Republic: Is it worth it?
Yes, especially if you’re looking for a moderately priced room in Tahoe. If you’re weighing this against Harrah’s next door, Caesars Republic is the clear upgrade. The lobby design, the gym and the pool are worth it on their own. Just don’t assume “recently renovated” means every square foot got the same treatment. The rooms, in particular, aren’t fully there yet. But with rates that can dip under $100 a night, that’s a reasonable compromise.
For everyone else — even if you’re staying elsewhere in Tahoe — it’s absolutely worth popping in for a meal or drinks. Then stick around for Dueling Pianos to end the night.
And don’t overlook how great this location is. It’s walkable to the lake and Heavenly, and it’s equally enjoyable in both winter and summer. I’d stay again for the convenience of the great location, plus the wealth of on-site food and entertainment.
